Water Bottles at London Stadium for the Portsmouth match

The FAB has raised supporter concerns about the decision to ban refillable water bottles at London Stadium today. We found out about this on Thursday 6th August 2026. The FAB raised the same concerns at the last game of last season against Leeds United.  

We have been told that is a London Stadium decision, not a West Ham United decision, taken by the stadium as holder of the Safety Certificate to prevent bottles being thrown and causing injury. The FAB is very disappointed that the London Stadium has chosen not to reconsider this ban, given we are in a record breaking hot and dry summer. 

The Club has raised supporter concerns with the stadium and pushed for more free water points and access to drinking water throughout the ground.

The FAB understands the safety issue, but supporter welfare must come first. If fans cannot bring water in, free drinking water must be readily available, easy to find and accessible without lengthy queues. A significant increase in water fountains is needed at the earliest opportunity.

Supporters who need a plastic refillable bottle for medical or accessibility reasons can apply for an exemption and should follow the guidance issued by the Club and London Stadium.

The FAB will monitor how this works in practice and raise any problems directly with the Club and London Stadium.
